Nichols' Shooting Star

May 23, 2016

I Am A Star made it back to back wins on Saturday, winning the Group 3 Quayclean National Stakes over 1200m, at Morphetville.

The Shane Nichols trained two-year-old jumped well and settled in a really nice position throughout the race - just behind the leaders.

Rounding the turn jockey, Steven King, asked her to find something and she responded, showing her speed with a brilliant turn of foot to run away with the win by three lengths.

Nichols was impressed with the filly who broke through for her first black-type win and will now be "setting the bar high" for the I Am Invincible filly during the spring.

“Now she’s a Group 3 winner, she’ll have a little break and then we’ll target all the good fillies’ races in the spring.” Added Nichols

“I think the future looks really bright for her and the mile should be her go so we will look at something like the Thousand Guineas.with her."

“I had the full sister, Band On The Run and I thought she could run a mile and this filly is a better horse than her,” Nichols said.

“We’ll aim high and then see how we go from there.”

Steven King will be looking to keep the ride on I Am A Star during the Spring and rode Nichols' last Thousand Guineas runner, Meditrina, who contested the classic in 2012.
