Darcionic Does It Again

Apr 20, 2017

They say lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place but Darcionic tried proving them wrong today at Seymour, with another win in a BM58 Highweight Handicap, with Clayton Douglas again on board. The Shane Nichols trained gelding's last win - four starts back - was in the same class of race with the same jockey up.

Douglas took Darcionic towards the rear of the field after jumping from the widest gate where he settled sixth, two wide, in the eight horse field. He travelled nicely throughout running before Douglas asked him the question around the turn.

Douglas urged him around the turn and took him to the middle of the track before he ran clear of them doing his best work in the last 150m.

"On straightening I hadn't really gone for him and when I asked for his big effort he got over the top of that horse of (Robert) Smerdon's so it was a good effort," Douglas said after the race.

"He's been a good horse for me this season so far and it's good to ride another winner for Shane because I ride work for him and he's going really well at the moment."

Nichols was also pleased to get another win with the four-year-old as his owners "have been really patient and deserve some more wins."

"He enjoyed getting back to Seymour as the track really suits him and Clayton rode him perfectly again," added Nichols.

"We sharpened him up by giving him some schooling coming into the race and he seems to have relished it.

"He is a beautiful horse and he is owned by a great group of people who got involved in him when I bought him as a yearling out of New Zealand."

Darcionic is by Darci Brahma and is out of Volconic who is a half sister to Group 1 winner Red Dazzler.
