UBET Star Is A Chance

May 03, 2017

Shane Nichols' I Am A Star will be looking to win her second Group 1 on the weekend in the 1200m UBET Classic (Registered as Robert Sangster Stakes) at Morphetville.

I Am A Star is looking to continue her successful prep so far which has already yielded two Group 2 wins and a second placing at the same level from five starts.

"Its similar to the spring she won the Myer sixth run in for the prep but she had a few three week gaps early," said Nichols.

"The spacing has been ok this time in because instead of going to the 1400m early we went to the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and that sort of freed up the time in between runs.

I Am A Star is coming off a bit of a freshen up after running eighth to It's Somewhat in the Doncaster at the start of April at Randwick on a rain affected track.

"The timing was actually pretty good she enjoys stable life so we didn't actually send her to the paddock, she spent a week in the water and then normal track work.

"She's a fairly athletic filly so we haven't had to do a lot with her and her gallop Friday morning was excellent."

Nichols wasn't scared of the fact that the three-year-old will again take on the older mares as well as fillies as her Group 1 win in the Myer came after being the first filly to win in the race's history.

"She's tackled the mares a couple of times and been able to beat them and with Sheidel and English there's some good mare's and fillies in this and I think she's going in this in as good as order as we can have her anyway."

Dean Yendall will again take the ride with Nichols saying "he's won three from four on her so he will stay on," with Yendall's only defeat on the filly coming in her last start in the Doncaster.
