Mesclun Claims Deserving Win
May 24, 2017
The Shane Nichols trained filly, Mesclun, broke through for her first win on Wednesday at Ballarat in the Ableworks Maiden Plate over 1100m.
It was Mesclun's seventh trip to the races with a return of three second placings and two thirds coming from her first six starts, including two second placing's this campaign.
Mesclun began quickly and led in the early stages before Tilly's All Class and Duecourse took over the running. When the field rounded the turn jockey, Alan Creighton, eased her out of a pocket to be three wide rounding the turn. Mesclun and Duecourse broke away from the field with Mesclun running away from Duecourse to claim the win.
"When I let her head go she sprinted well, the track's probably a little too firm for her she'd rather a bit of give in it but won well in the end," Creighton said after the race.
Nichols was also wrapt with the win in what has been a great season for the Mornington based trainer with 10 wins coming from his last 50 starters.
"I was really pleased with that as she really deserved a win," said Nichols.
"She is a half sister to I Am The General who has been a pretty good horse for the stable and was a last start winner and she runs in the same colours as another pretty good horse in the stable in I Am A Star.
"She's a nice filly and I still think she will improve as the tracks get softer and Alan gave her a magnificent ride today.
"Its always nice to have a winner as you are approaching a yearling sale and we are heading up to the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions June Yearling Sale early next month."
Mesclun is by Salade who is a son of Snitzel who is the hottest sire in the country at the moment and is out of the General Nediym mare, General's Dynasty. General's Dynasty was a four time winner in her own right and won over $150,000 in prize money and has now had three winner's with Salade, I Am The General and Dynasty Queen.
There are still limited opportunities to get involved in the stable with yearlings by I Am Invincible, Pierro and Eurozone. More information can be found at the Horse's Available page.
